Jump for JOY

Hey Reader! 👋Happy Monday!

In Louisville, the Kentucky Derby is THE event of the year.

I'm not a huge fan of horse racing, but I am of JOY, and this clip of Cherie Devaux, the first female trainer to win the KY Derby is everything

I had my own joyful moment on Tuesday after delivering my "Fire Your Unreliable Narrator: Brain-based Strategies for Happier Workdays" to the 440 public healthcare workers gathered in Lexington for their biannual conference.

I did my prep work. I knew the burnout and other mental challenges these practitioners faced when caring for others.

I stood on the raised platform at the front of the ballroom with ease and flow, ready to pour into those who spend their workdays pouring into others.

I left the stage for the final exercise, walking among the tables, taking in the smiles, laughter, and tears as people spoke their heartfelt words of appreciation to their tablemate.

I invited them to say hello, hanging out at the front of the ballroom after I spoke.

A handful of people came by to share their appreciation with me for my message.

It was the woman who said, "I needed to hear that. I can't thank you enough," who had me jumping for joy inside like Cherie Devaux.

Reader, I know that you may not have a glorious, victorious moment today, but I believe you have the opportunity to create one for someone else with your own heartfelt words of appreciation.

Whether you send a text, email, hand-written note, or say it in person, you can make someone feel like a KY Derby winner with your words of appreciation.

The formula is easy: be specific, genuine, and tell them how they have positively impacted you.

That's it. Nothing fancy and difficult.

So, go ahead. Permission given to make someone a winner today with your words.

Start the ripple, and you will find yourself feeling more joyful, too.

P.S.

If you are looking for someone to positively energize your room, whether it's 10 or 100 people, I'd love to help you out. Just hit reply, and we'll grab a few minutes to talk.

Have a joyful week!

Hey Reader! 👋 I know you're gonna relate to this one. It's Friday afternoon, and I'm checking my inbox one final time before I tap out for the weekend. There's a new email from the Ohio Safety Congress: Your OSC26® Session Evaluations Are Now Available. This is the speaker equivalent of receiving your annual performance review. I'm about to hear how the 25 attendees in my 3-hour workshop on harnessing conflict rated my work. The first thing I'm presented with is the numbers. It's the standard...

Hey Reader! 👋 I made it through my pickleball-free week. What need did you honor? This week, I delivered the fourth session in my new Human-Centered Leadership curriculum. Writing that session was a STRUGGLE. Not because I didn't understand the concepts. Reader, what got in the way was this story: you have an extra week between sessions, so you should work ahead and take the pressure off. Great advice. So why wasn't it working? The first few days go by and I'm not making much progress. My...

Hey Reader! 👋 Vacation was awesome. I got plenty of sunshine, fresh air, exercise, and rest. So the sudden twinge in my right knee is really throwing me. I can't think of anything I've done to injure myself. I decide to do three things: Limit my pickleball play time Put new insoles in all my athletic shoes Use my PT app to work on my knee pain I've had great success using my TENS unit during pickleball matches to prevent my calf muscle from seizing, so I decide to give it a try on my knee. It...
